Hear NCI’s CIO Discuss Cancer Moonshot℠ Efforts at the AWS Public Sector Summit
Are you attending the Amazon Web Services (AWS) Public Sector Summit? If so, consider joining NCI’s Chief Information Officer, Mr. Jeff Shilling. On June 7, he’ll be part of a panel titled, “Speeding Solutions for Cancer with Open-Science."
During this discussion, Mr. Shilling and other panelists will talk about the Cancer Moonshot program and how AWS is working with cancer research institutes (like NIH and the Children’s Brain Tumor Network) to address this program’s goals. Mr. Shilling and his colleagues will comment on how they’re applying technology and modernizing infrastructure to improve cancer research. Jeff, in particular, will share how cloud-based open science models are eliminating siloes and allowing scientists to analyze (in near real-time) with the help of:
- medical records.
- imaging.
- genomics.
- other data to accelerate research and the development of new therapies.
The Cancer Moonshot has been reignited by U.S. President Joe Biden, with a mission to end cancer as we know it by improving prevention, screening, diagnosis, and treatment.
Mr. Shilling is responsible for the availability, confidentiality, and integrity of all NCI IT systems and their data. This includes maximizing value and assessing and managing the risks of information technology at NCI.
