Frederick National Laboratory for Cancer Research requests proposals to develop a query engine called the Cancer Data Aggregator (CDA). The CDA will allow users to aggregate data via queries across the Human Tumor Atlas Network, the NCI Cancer Research Data Commons (CRDC) nodes, and other Data Coordinating Centers and repositories with which NCI plans to interoperate. 

The CDA is a critical component of the National Cancer Data Ecosystem, a key recommendation from the Cancer Moonshot℠ Blue Ribbon Panel. Integrative cancer research is currently hampered by the fact that important datasets are stored in different repositories. The awardee will closely collaborate with the NCI Center for Cancer Data Harmonization (CCDH). The CCDH will work with the Cancer Data Aggregator (CDA) to develop the semantics required to allow users to query across datatype-specific and program-specific repositories. Specifically, the CDA will allow users to: identify data types available for given query criteria; understand where data reside within participating repositories; and return results in a format suitable for users’ downstream analysis needs. By enabling integrative research across NCI’s repositories, research results can be translated into additional knowledge to inform cancer treatment and discovery.

Given the scope of the project, the aggressive timelines, and the extent to which CDA will interact with the CRDC, those interested in submitting a proposal must have existing experience with a CRDC project.
