WALS J. Edward Rall Cultural Lecture: The Promises and Perils of AI in Biomedical Research and Health Care Delivery

March 19, 2024 1:30 p.m. - 2:30 p.m. ET

Join NIH Director Dr. Monica Bertagnolli as she hosts an engaging conversation with one of the “fathers of the internet:” Dr. Vinton “Vint” Cerf. They’ll talk about artificial intelligence and machine learning (AI/ML) as it relates to Dr. Bertagnolli’s vision for delivering evidence-based care to all people.

In 1997, Dr. Cerf and his partner Dr. Robert Kahn received the U.S. National Medal of Technology for founding and developing the internet. While currently serving at Google, Dr. Cerf contributes to global policy development and internet standardization. As a longtime advocate for net neutrality and full accessibility, he has recently voiced his concerns about (and proposed solutions for) the long-term durability of digital storage, the spread of misinformation, and the rapid growth of AI.

Monica Bertagnolli, M.D.

Dr. Bertagnolli is the 17th director of NIH.

Vint Cerf, Ph.D.

Dr. Cerf currently serves as vice president and chief internet evangelist for Google. He’s known as one of the “fathers of the internet” after co-designing TCP/IP protocols and the architecture of the Internet.

A recording of this event is now available via NIH VideoCast.
