The Cancer Research Data Commons 2024 Fall Symposium: Ten Years of Empowering Cancer Researchers
The Cancer Research Data Commons (CRDC) is celebrating its 10th Anniversary! This one-and-a-half-day event, open to the public and offering options for in-person and online participation, will be held on October 16 and 17.
The Symposium will highlight the accomplishments of the past 10 years and explore future advancements through a series of informative sessions, including the following:
- Interoperability Advances and Data Governance Improvements: Learn about the latest efforts to enhance data management and sharing within the cancer research community.
- Aggregated Data Search and Discovery Updates: Discover new streamlined processes for data submission and search capabilities.
- Success Stories: Hear how our data and resources have contributed to bench, clinical, and translational studies.
- Initiative and Agency Partnerships Reports: Get updates from the CRDC AI Readiness Initiative and the CRDC collaboration with the Advanced Research Projects Agency for Health to develop a Biomedical Data Fabric Toolbox, among others.
The CRDC Fall Symposium will begin with an afternoon collaboration session with the NCI Office of Data Sharing* (ODS), followed by a full day of CRDC-focused sessions.
Day One (October 16)
CRDC/ODS Collaboration Session
1:00–5:00 p.m. ET
This shared session will focus on how CRDC’s data science infrastructure fits in the ODS data sharing lifecycle to support cancer research.
Day Two (October 17)
CRDC Session
9:00 a.m.–4:00 p.m. ET
This session agenda includes:

- NCI Programs Leveraging the CRDC
- CRDC Data Submission, Discovery, and Interoperability

- CRDC Stakeholder Fireside Chat
Independent data science consultant and founder of Tesselate Data Consulting, Amanda Borens, will lead the keynote presentation, sharing her thoughts on working across large research consortia and the importance of secure and rapid data sharing.
Following the keynote, NCI’s Deputy Director for Data Science and Strategy, Dr. Warren Kibbe, will walk through the evolution of NCI’s cancer informatics efforts and how the CRDC fits into the NCI’s overarching data science strategy and vision.
