The NIH Office of Data Science Strategy is pleased to announce the Data and Technology Advancement (DATA) National Service Scholar Program, a new opportunity for experienced data and computer scientists and engineers to tackle biomedical data challenges with the potential for substantial public health impact.

The 1- to 2-year positions will be based at the NIH offices located in Bethesda and Rockville, MD, or at Research Triangle Park, NC.

DATA Scholars will:

• Lead transformative NIH projects that leverage large data sets to advance knowledge in high-impact areas of biomedical research.
• Directly communicate technical and project-related information with NIH senior leadership.
• Collaborate with other DATA Scholars and the NIH data science community across broad disciplinary boundaries.
• Engage with policymakers, top researchers, and industry partners.

As part of this program, the National Cancer Institute (NCI) is specifically seeking a DATA Scholar who can identify critical questions in translating data into knowledge and define detailed technical solutions utilizing NCI Cancer Research Data Commons (CRDC) resources. The scholar will work in coordination with a newly developed Cancer Data Aggregator (CDA) team to tie together the harmonization, integration, and aggregation of data to perform innovative and improved downstream analysis.

Applicants should possess technical skills in areas such as artificial intelligence, cloud computing, data engineering, data science, database management, project management, software design, supercomputing, and/or bioinformatics. Industry experience is desired. Applicants should have an M.D., Ph.D., or equivalent doctoral degree and advanced experience in data science or related fields.
