Join the NIH data scientist community by becoming an NIH DATA Scholar at the National Center for Advancing Translational Sciences (NCATS). NCATS is looking for a data scientist to play an integral role in evaluating thousands of rare diseases and furthering the research understanding of more than 7,000 rare diseases for which existing data is currently ripe for integration and use.

Applications are due by April 9, 2021.

Affiliated with the NIH DATA Scholar program, this DATA Scholar will support the project, “Bringing Hope to Untreatable Rare Diseases through Data Science.” This project intends to further NCATS’ understanding of these diseases and ultimately help develop more treatments.

The DATA Scholar will have support from expert NCATS staff who will help translate the findings into actionable and scalable solutions. The work will support NCATS’ mission of bringing more treatments to more patients more quickly. This will include:

  • identifying rare diseases that may be candidates for repurposing existing approved drugs.
  • exploring publicly available data resources in the rare disease research landscape.
  • creating models to extract knowledge, harmonize data, and validate evidence.
  • disseminating findings by presenting at conferences, submitting manuscripts for publication, and building a GitHub site that captures code to replicate results.

For more information about this DATA Scholar position, refer to the project website.
