The pace of data science innovation is rapidly increasing, and a diverse workforce is necessary not only to drive scientific advancement but also to ensure computational tools and datasets are free of bias. To address this need, the National Library of Medicine’s Intramural Research Program is offering a Diversity in Data Science and Informatics (DDSI) research internship to current and incoming college students. The DDSI summer internship will provide biomedical informatics training and research opportunities to students from diverse backgrounds, including those from underrepresented groups, in computer science and related fields. Applicants for this program must:

• be at least 17 years of age by June 15, 2022 (Note: if the internship start date falls before June 15, you must be age 17 by the internship start date).
• be a U.S. citizen or permanent resident.
• be enrolled at least half-time in an accredited U.S. college (including community college), university, or professional school (e.g., medical, dental, pharmacy) OR accepted into an accredited college or university program for Fall 2022.
• have completed coursework relevant to computer science, data science, informatics, or statistical research.
• be interested in using computational methods to answer biological, biomedical, or health-science related questions.
• have a cumulative GPA of 3.2 or higher (on a 4.0 scale).
