Gain Data Science Research Experience through NCI’s iCURE Mentorship Program
The Intramural Continuing Umbrella of Research Experiences (iCURE) program is accepting applications through December 15, 2022.
To further NCI’s commitment to diversity, the program seeks applicants from underrepresented groups in the biomedical, clinical, behavioral, and population sciences. Previous iCURE projects have included advancing cancer outcomes through large-scale data analysis, leveraging bioinformatics to improve diagnosis and treatment of cancer, and other data science projects.
The program offers a variety of awards for post-baccalaureate (including post-master’s) individuals, graduate students, and postdoctoral fellows. Accepted scholars will be able to network and receive both professional and career development support.
Director of the Center to Reduce Cancer Health Disparities, Dr. Sanya A. Springfield, says, “iCURE is the sister program to our extramural CURE program, and both are aimed at providing outstanding research experiences and great mentorship opportunities for students and scientists from underrepresented and underserved groups. Each year offers different projects, research areas, and research mentors to match scholars. This past year, we have been excited to offer several excellent opportunities in data science. We encourage qualified candidates from diverse backgrounds to apply to this program.”
Specific offerings for mentored research experiences have not been finalized yet, but participating divisions include the:
- Center for Cancer Research.
- Division of Cancer Epidemiology and Genetics.
- Division of Cancer Control and Population Sciences.
