Functional Precision Oncology for Cancer Treatment Selection

March 11, 2020 11:00 a.m. - 12:00 p.m. ET

On Wednesday, March 11, Dr. Gabor Marth will present "Functional Precision Oncology for Cancer Treatment Selection."

In this talk, Dr. Marth will present the Functional Precision Oncology Initiative, which combines model-based drug screening with multi-omic and subclonal analyses of the tumor to predict the extent of the response. He will demonstrate the Initiative’s application to patients and describe ongoing development and validation of a comprehensive precision oncology web tool to facilitate intuitive visual evaluation of treatment choices vis-a-vis functional drug screening results and advanced multi-omic molecular profiling data collected from cancer patients’ tumors. This project is funded through NCI’s Informatics Technology for Cancer Research (ITCR) program (1U24CA209999-01).

The Data Science Seminar Series presents talks from innovators in the research and informatics communities both within and outside of NCI.

Gabor Marth, D.Sc.

Dr. Gabor Marth is a professor of Human Genetics and Director of the USTAR Center for Genetic Discovery at University of Utah Health Sciences Center. He is an internationally recognized expert in the analysis of DNA sequence variations. Dr. Marth and his group played a key role in the development of methods and software that support the use of high-throughput sequencing technologies to study DNA variation on large scale, and led the design of standardized formats (SAM/BAM, VCF) that have now been widely adopted by the genomics community as the common currency for storing genomic sequencing data. Dr. Marth has a doctorate of science from Washington University and master's and bachelor's degrees from Technical University of Budapest.
